Thanksgiving Balloons

This year as a Thanksgiving project, Dozier Elementary Librarian, Mrs. Schuyler Poche, and her students participated in a new, rare and exciting project. Mrs. Poche has been to the Macy’s Day Parade and wanted to share her experience through her photos taken and the history of the large balloons that captivate the nation annually.

The book at the center of the project is the biography, "Balloons Over Broadway" by Melissa Sweet. The biography teaches the students about the person, Tony Sarg, who invented the mammoth-sized balloons that are seen at the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade!

The Dozier Elementary fourth and fifth grade students participated by creating their own Thanksgiving Day balloons that will not fly in New York, but in their own Dozier Library!
