PREK Registration at Dozier Elementary Please help spread the word to our community!

To the parents of upcoming 2020-2021 PreK Dozier Elementary students,

Due to  COVID 19 school cancellation in March, Dozier Elementary's face to face PreK registration had to be canceled.

Some parents did have issues with the electronic method. We wanted to let everyone know that there is a paper registration that is also available now at the Vermilion Parish School Board Office. The information is below.

At this time, our Dozier Elementary PreK numbers are low. If you haven't done so yet, please register your child as soon as possible if you are interested in your child attending PreK at Dozier during the 2020-2021 year.

Pre-K registration for Dozier is in two forms at this time.  You can do it ONLINE @ https://vermilion.edgear.net/register or by PAPER PICKUP and dropoff methods. Both sets of directions are below.

I. PREK ONLINE METHOD:

1.  To register ONLINE, you can go through the VP website @ https://www.vpsb.net/
2.  There is a link at the top of the page that is labeled "NEW! 2020-21 Online Pre-K & K Registration."  Click that. READ the directions on that page.

  1. THEN, once you have all your information in place, register online @ https://vermilion.edgear.net/register

II. PREK PAPER PICK UP METHOD:

If you can't complete it online, please know that you can pick up and complete paper applications. Paper applications are available on a cart at the school board office near the entrance doors to the Charles Campbell building. Once paper applications are completed, return to the dropbox located in the same area. Address for the Vermilion Parish School Board Office is 220 S Jefferson St., Abbeville, LA 70510. Pick up is in the Charles Campbell Building. PLEASE NOTE:  Starting on June 8, 2020, until July 17. 2020, the Central Office hours will be 7:30-3:30 PM from Monday through Thursday and from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Fridays.

April 19, 2020 Update!

Recently the Governor announced that schools will remain closed for the remainder of the school year. We know this is a challenging time for our community.  In an effort to support our families and students during this extended school closure, our central office staff and school leaders have collaborated to develop a Continuous Learning Plan for our district. (https://docs.google.com/document/d/183mlQYT9wcdgLAH1prieLXSbyIMu1x7Ae-ptnH5gDE0/edit?fbclid=IwAR2SeDIENq21SFoPlQeChL-qVS_vVMJ-KsV0vrvDXiAZGfmkn1tLMdym5rE#heading=h.jzkedec7bgo2) This plan outlines our step by step process to ensure that ALL students receive instructional support during this extended closure. This support will continue well into the 2020-2021 school year when all students and staff return safely to our schools.

Beginning April 20th - April 22nd, teachers and school administrators will be calling parents of their students, as part of our Vermilion Community Call-Out Mission. Teachers want to check in on our families and provide information regarding end of the year grades, waiving of state testing and our Supplemental Continuous Learning Guide.(https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PhaQTgRsJ4TMOHEvBYmPH8eFuPqaBnAjUsngf3BOaeI/edit)  These phone calls may come to you from a “blocked number” or “No Caller ID”. We encourage you to accept our teacher's phone calls and hear about all of the wonderful support we are prepared to offer!  Please visit our district website at https://www.vpsb.net under our COVID-19 Information Page to view our extensive Continuous Learning Plan.

Text from the Vermilion Parish Interim Superintendent’s office. Date: 3-16-2020

In order to preserve equitable educational opportunities, the Vermilion Parish School System has elected not to engage in distance learning. All instructional pacing and grading will be suspended until further notice. Teachers have been advised not to require any type of assignments. The only exceptions are for high school students taking dual enrollment courses, as these are part of the university system. At the request of parents, online resources are available at https://www.vpsb.net/205029_2. The Louisiana Department of Education has approved initial waivers for a number of educational policies that impact all students, including students with disabilities. All special education instructional services and Section 504 accommodations will resume when school reopens.

PREK and Kindergarten Registration are POSTPONED!

  • PreK Registration Information for 2020-2021 is on the Vermilion Parish site under the Departments tab. You will see an “Early Childhood” tab. Once you pass your mouse over Early Childhood, a menu of all events will pop up to the right.
  • School Performance scores came out. Some changes as to how they calculate scores are available. You can see more about that here!

The state issues School Performance Scores for public schools based on student achievement data. To clearly communicate the quality of school performance to families and the public, Louisiana adopted letter grades (A-F). All schools with sufficient data receive school performance scores.

For elementary schools (K-6) 100 percent of the school grade is based on student achievement on annual assessments in English language arts, math, science, and social studies.   Schools may also earn points for students who meet their growth target.

I am proud to announce for the third consecutive year Dozier has scored an A.  Our school performance score is 90.3.  I am very proud of our hard working students and teachers on their accomplishments.  Our teachers have continued to set high expectations and our students have risen to the challenge.  I would like to thank our supportive families and community that have helped us to be an outstanding school.
